WHAT DOES THE LETUS35 ADAPTER DO?
It provides the image with a shallower depth-of-field, which makes the footage look more like film, more cinematic.
WHAT IS DEPTH-OF-FIELD?
Depth of field (or DoF) is the depth of the space from the lens that is all in focus at once. A shallow depth of field means that only a sliver of space outward from the lens will be in focus at one time; a large depth of field means that a large section of space away from the lens can be at focus at once, meaning any objects in this space will all be in focus simultaneously. Cinema lenses, generally, have a shallower DoF than video lenses.
WHY CAN A SHALLOW DoF BE BETTER?
99% of the films you see in the cinema are shot with 35mm motion picture cameras and lenses that provide a shallower DoF than those used for TV. The images produced have much more grandeur and beauty to them, and give the director more creative control in the cinematography. In short, it means that you have more opportunity to make use of and play with the focus - instead of almost everything being in focus all of the time.To see the results the 35mm rig can produce, please watch my showreel - anything labelled '35mm' as the format has been shot using this 35mm adapter rig.
